Does this write my videos for me?
It drafts, analyses and plans. You decide, verify and publish. A tool that claimed otherwise would be lying to you about what language models can do.
How is this different from putting the same prompts into a chat window?
The state. Your brief constrains the script; the script records which claims it leans on; the packaging is scored against the script you actually wrote. A chat window forgets all of that between messages, and you end up re-pasting context until something contradicts itself.
Do I need my own API key?
Yes. Every AI step runs on your own key, one of OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude) or Google AI Studio, and that provider bills you directly for what you use, so this product never resells generation and the subscription is the whole of what Throughline charges. The key is stored encrypted on the server rather than in your browser, which is not a safe place for one.
Which AI do I need?
OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude) or Google AI Studio. Google AI Studio is the one that issues a key without a card, so you can run the whole workflow before paying anybody. Connect one under Settings → API keys and every step runs inside Throughline as a job you can watch, cancel and retry. There is no usage bill from Throughline. You pay your provider for what you use, at their price.
Can I lose work?
Scripts are versioned append-only, so no edit or applied result can overwrite an earlier draft. Briefs autosave. Everything is exportable at any time.
Is my content used to train models?
Not by Throughline: it holds no AI account of its own, trains nothing, and never sends your content to analytics. What your provider does with it is set by the terms you hold with them, and those differ. One matters here because it is the key recommended for starting without a card: Google's unpaid tier states that submitted content is used to improve Google products and that human reviewers may read it. Its paid tier excludes both. Read the terms of the provider you connect.
What happens to my data if I stop paying?
It stays. Existing projects become read-only rather than deleted, and export keeps working. Resubscribing restores everything exactly as it was.
Can I bring projects across from another tool?
If you have a local JSON export in the supported legacy format, yes. See the migration guide. You get a preview before anything is written and a rollback afterwards.
Does it post to social platforms?
No. It prepares platform-native assets and reminds you. Automated posting would mean holding publishing tokens for your accounts, and that risk is not worth the convenience.
Can my editor or researcher work in it too?
Not yet. The permissions are built and enforced server-side on every action, for owner and admin and editor and viewer, but there is no way to invite somebody into a workspace, so today a workspace is one person. Saying otherwise would be selling you a seat you cannot fill.
